Leicester’s very own Caribbean Carnival is back on Saturday 3rd August, and promises to be bigger, brighter and better than ever before! Since its inaugural year in 1985, it has grown each year to become one of the largest carnivals outside London, attracting over 110,000 visitors!
The Caribbean Carnival is a wonderful celebration of Leicester’s diverse cultures and a fantastic opportunity to experience Caribbean traditions. Events kick off at 11am in Victoria Park, with live entertainment and a tantalisingly tempting array of food stalls. The official opening ceremony begins at 12:30pm: after this, follow the spectacular parade through the city centre, featuring fantastically colourful costumes, stunningly decorated floats and invigorating music from costumed bands that is guaranteed to get your toes tapping!
The Parade will arrive back in Victoria Park by 2pm – but the festivities are just beginning! Live music continues on the Main Stage at Carnival Village, featuring the excellent costumed bands from the parade, plus other artists from Leicester and elsewhere across the UK. Enjoy a tasty treat or a cool cocktail as you soak up the festival atmosphere, with music continuing until 8pm; and, if that’s too early to stop the party, head into Leicester’s city centre and dance the night away!
