Christmas in Leicester
With the festive season upon us there’s nothing more we like to do than have a mooch about the city centre and take in all the winter wonder, the mulled wine, various food stalls, shopping for gifts for loved ones and live music are just a few staples that occur in these markets during Christmas in Leicester that bring us such joy. Below are just a few of the bits of festive fun you can expect to see around Leicester this year.

Christmas Lights Switch-On
Thursday 17 November
5pm – 8pm
Leicester Festivals, the collective behind so many great festivals and events in the city, have truly outdone themselves this year. Commemorate the start of the festive season with the official lights switch on taking place in the city centre from 5pm on Thursday 17th November. Thousands of spectators are expected to attend and watch as thousands of lights illuminate the Clock Tower tree and the streets within the vicinity. Entertainment will be around in multiple forms throughout the evening ranging from a funfair on Humberstone Gate to The UK Kid’s Comedy Festival with their pop up Joke Spot along with family friendly films, food and drinks.
Jubilee Square Ice Rink
Thursday 1 December – Monday 2 January 2023
This year sees the return of the Jubilee Square Ice Rink. Due to how popular the Ice Rink has become the opening hours have been extended by adding a new later skate session at 9pm for the duration of the season. This year there will be the introduction of super off-peak pricing, where there will be opportunities to skate for just £5 at times that are yet to be confirmed.
Weather conditions aren’t an issue at the Ice Rink itself has a clear roof so come rain or shine you’ll be able to either show off or clutch the side rails as you go around. This year you can make your Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day extra special as the rink will be open for these days too.
